Through examinations of reactions to the presidential election of 1888, the Women’s Suffrage Movement in Colorado, and the history of voting in the United States, this exhibition placed Colorado in a national context of politics during the Gilded Age of the United States and brings election and voting issues to attention as the 2020 presidential election neared.
This exhibit idea was brought to me by a staff member of the AAC. Starting with the Harper’s Weekly map “The Battle-Ground of the Presidential Election,” my research expanded into the Colorado Women’s Suffrage Movement and the built environment of Denver during the 1880s. I curated, designed, and installed this exhibition.
